How do Bcbas Track Rbt Performance and Data Collection?

Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) use several data-driven methods to track Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) performance and ensure the accuracy of therapy implementation. These methods include:

  • Electronic Fidelity Checklists: Also known as treatment integrity checklists, these are used to evaluate how accurately an RBT implements specific behavior plans during both in-person and remote sessions.
  • Shared Electronic Platforms: RBTs enter session notes and behavior data into digital platforms. This provides BCBAs with real-time access to client outcomes and data collection accuracy without the delays associated with paper records.
  • Inter-rater Reliability Checks: Supervisors and RBTs may score the same recorded session independently and then compare results to ensure consistency in how data is being recorded.
  • Direct Observation and Feedback: BCBAs must supervise at least 5% of an RBT’s total service hours monthly. This involves real-time observation (in-person or via live video) where the BCBA provides immediate verbal, visual, or modeling feedback.
  • Session Recording Reviews: With proper consent, supervisors review recorded sessions to evaluate performance and provide feedback outside of the regularly scheduled live observation windows.
