Helping your child transfer skills from therapy to the classroom is a collaborative process, and you’re not on your own in this journey. We use several strategies to bridge the gap between home-based therapy and the school environment:
- Collaborative School Support: We suggest meeting with your child’s teacher to share specific ABA targets. Providing a one-page “skill card” that lists three key behaviors and the reinforcement techniques that work at home can help the teacher maintain consistency in the classroom.
- Natural Environment Teaching (NET): We practice school-like scenarios at home—such as raising a hand, waiting for a turn, or following group instructions—to prepare your child for real-world classroom moments.
- Consistent Communication: We recommend using a shared communication log or a simple notebook to keep our BCBAs, RBTs, and school staff aligned. This ensures everyone is using the same prompts and reinforcing the same skills.
- Motivation and Tracking: You can use a sticker chart or a daily check-in note to help your child report their successes at school. We also use maintenance probes (periodic, un-prompted checks) to verify that these skills are truly sticking in new settings.
WE COUNT ON OUR PARENTS to help identify everyday routines where these skills can be practiced. By working together as a team, we ensure your child builds the confidence to navigate the classroom independently.
Note: Results may vary based on individual patient circumstances. Please consult with a healthcare professional for diagnosis or treatment advice.
